Niyaz Najafov
(1968)
…It all started with the ‘Scream’, a famous painting by Edward Munch. It must have been a precursor… because Niyaz ‘is a walking nightmare screaming out loud’. His painting are putting viewer’s idea of ‘normality’ to a tough test. Looking at them is like trying to find out what you can endure.
It would be even more accurate to say that looking at them is like ‘Looking at your own reflection!’…
